Learning unit contents

Introduction to history of poetic forms in France and in french poetry since the 19th century : metrical verse, alexandrine, free verse, typographical features of the poems, relation between verse and syntax, rhyme.

First part: principles of french metrics; methodology.

Second part: evolution of the alexandrine verse; rhyme; structures.

Third part: The poem and the typography; contemporary forms.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, the student will have been sensitized to the formal aspect of poetry; he / she will be able to differentiate the forms, to apply to them a methodical descriptive analysis, to observe their historical and poetic function. She / he will be able to analyze a formal corpus.

The course takes place in the 1st quadrimester. The schedule is fixed for Monday, but can be modified according to the needs and availability of the students.
