Learning unit contents

The course aims to provide the fundamental disciplinary skills for analysing Italian literary texts. The corpus will consist of texts representative of the genre of the short story, from the 17th to the 20th century. These texts will be placed in their historical, cultural, political and social context. A number of adaptations (film, theatre, etc.) of the short stories studied in class will also be analysed.

The methodology will include various approaches - narratology, thematic criticism, etc. - in order to shed light on the interpretation of the texts. - in order to highlight the interpretation of meaning and the value of the texts.

The course will consist of lectures and, for the practical part, directed discussions, debates, work in small groups and oral presentations. Students will be invited to examine the internal structures of the text as well as its historiographical contextualisation.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, students will have acquired the skills to analyse Italian literary texts (historical contextualisation and internal analysis). They will be able to apply the methodology learned to other Italian texts, similar to those examined in class.
