Learning unit contents
The course covers the syntactic description of spoken French, highlighting its specificities.
The course demonstrates the limitations of the models proposed by traditional grammar and structural analysis to show how these limitations have been overcome using models that take into account the structure of spoken language.
The course consists of three parts:
- an introduction to spoken French;
- a presentation of specific syntactic problems and their modeling;
- an introduction to modern treebank encoding and corpus extraction tools.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
- explain the concepts and issues investigated during the lessons;
- analyse a specific issue that has not been investigated during the course in a critical and creative way;
- use explicit sample data to elaborate the analysis.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Required
- Traditional grammatical notions (ideally, Analyses grammaticales du français, B1, LLFR*).
- Main concepts of descriptive linguistics (ideally Linguistique synchronique du français, B2, LLFR*).
- Very good proficiency in French (C1).

- Theoretical lessons introducing the main notions.

Additional information:
Students prepare a group synthesis question before the exam (detailed instructions provided in class). Each student individually presents the analysis and answers the teacher's questions.
The ability to present clearly and mastery of the subject are required and determine success.

The course takes place during Q1 (face to face), every Wednesday from 1PM to 3PM, room A2/5/6. Subject to change according to the health status.
