Learning unit contents

The theoretical part of this course will focus upon:





  • the definition of synchronic linguistics;
  • the parameters of the fields of phonology, morphosyntactic;
  • the inventorising and classification of basic operational relationships at each surveyed level;
  • the characterisation of classes of elements.
The practical part of the course will familiarise students with the concepts covered in the theory course and will assign exercises. Data from other languages will also be used as illustrative materials.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the basic concepts of phonology and morphosyntax covered in the class. Students will also be able to identify phenomena that remain problematic wrt this analysis framework.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

It is required that the students have good skills in grammatical analysis of French. C1 proficiency in French is required.

Written examination (100%).
The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 25% of the June final grade if > or = 10/20 (the mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20).
