This English grammar course aims to:
- verify mastery of the grammatical units covered in Bloc 1, in the lower-level grammar course;
- acquire and apply new grammatical skills in the context of written work.

By the end of the year, students will have reached the B1+ / B2 level for grammar skills.
Specialised vocabulary
The main aim is to help students learn, practise and use key political vocabulary. The different exercises will also enable students to improve the other language skills (based on regular participation).

Having passed the bloc 1 grammar course (LANG8030-A).
Specialised vocabulary
A basic knowledge of oral and written English is required (cf. LANG8030).

Vocabulary workshops dealing with lexical themes such as political regimes, international relations, the environment, law and warfare. Words-in-context exercises.

Additional information:
1 hour every week.
Weekly preparation (home)work is expected. We strongly advise students to read articles about the themes discussed in class, on their own and to practice their listening skills at home.

Further information:
Continuous assessment (10%*): grammar tests and writing exercises. Any absence from one of these tests, not justified by a medical certificate, will result in a score of 0/20 for the test in question. The continuous assessment grade will be maintained in the event of an exam session in August.
Written exams in January (10%*) and May/June (10%*): open-ended and multiple-choice questions.

The written exams of LANG8032-2 (Sem 1 & Sem 2) will be composed of grammar, and vocabulary exercises. On top of that, the Sem. 2 exam will include comprehension exercises, and a writing exercise.
There is also 1 mandatory oral activity that will be taken into account for the final mark (classwork = 15% of LANG8032C). This classwork mark will be kept if you have to retake the exam in August.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
Specialised vocabulary
Students are required to prepare some activities and exercises at home beforehand. Regular attendance is strongly advised. Participating in the course and attending classes with a hard copy of the syllabus are vital to the learning process.
Class activities may depend on the total number of students enrolled for LANG8032C.
Classwork results for LANG8032-2 (= 25% of the final mark) will be taken into account for the first and second exam sessions.
Regarding the use of language-generating artificial intelligence:
