Learning unit contents

The curriculum in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine comprises English language courses which aim to give students a thorough passive command of written and spoken English in the field of veterinary medicine.

The purpose of the first-year course is:

(1) to enable students to revise general English (CEFRL levels B1-B1+ for listening, B2 for reading) and, (2) to introduce the basic vocabulary of veterinary medicine in semi-autonomy (i.e. through guided self-learning).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course ...

  • Mastery of Basic Grammatical Structures:
Students will be able to identify, understand, and correctly use fundamental grammatical structures in English, necessary for written and oral communication in a veterinary professional context.

  • Acquisition of Veterinary Medicine-Specific Vocabulary:
Students will have acquired a basic vocabulary in English related to veterinary medicine, enabling them to understand and use technical terms in academic and professional contexts.

  • Reading and Understanding Popular Science Texts:
Students will be able to read and understand articles and popular science texts in English, oriented toward veterinary medicine, using appropriate reading strategies.

  • Listening Comprehension of Scientific Content:
Students will have developed their ability to understand oral sources in English, such as podcasts, or videos in popular science, focused on veterinary medicine topics.

  • Development of Autonomy in Learning:
Students will have developed autonomy in learning English through self-directed study by utilizing the provided resources and effectively organizing their study time.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills
