Learning unit contents
The course includes:
Speaking, writing and reading comprehension exercises to work intensively on various elements (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, ability to summarize/paraphrase, etc.) and listening comprehension. Revision of grammar items, listening comprehensions and vocabulary exercises.
Overall, the course will focus on oral and written communication with a revision of the English grammar.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
In agreement with the ILOs, the course aims at developing and strengthening the four language skills (oral and written expression, listening and reading comprehension). The objective is to give the students who do not have a sufficient level of English the possibility to reach the B1 or possibly B2 level.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Students should have the A2 level at least.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course particularly insists on practising English.
It will mainly include:
Various units and exercises based on business-related topics (vocabulary, texts, listening and reading comprehensions, speaking).
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

The course is taught 4 hours a week in class.
Students are required to prepare some exercises at home.

Annual assessment = 25% of the total mark
In-class case study: 15%
In-class presentation: 10%
Oral exam = 25% of the total mark
Written exam = 50% of the total mark
(vocabulary, grammar, listening comprehension, writing, reading,...)
FIRST SESSION (JANUARY)
The final grade will be calculated based on the following tests:
a) January written exam
b) January oral exam
SECOND SESSION (AUGUST)
The final grade will be calculated based on the following tests:
a) August written exam
b) August oral exam
c) Case study (if failed during the year)
d) Presentation (if failed during the year)
NB: All material from the first-session written exam must be presented, regardless of which parts are passed or failed. If one of the parts (written exam/oral exam) is passed in the first session, the related mark will be maintained when calculating the grade in August (except if the student wishes to re-sit the concerned part). If the student does not take or fails one of the annual assessments, he/she will have the opportunity to retake it (or them) in August.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The course is organized in two sessions of two hours during the first semester, in class (5ECTS).
The students who attend this course will automatically have to take the course English 3 - part 2 during the second semester.
