Learning unit contents
- Organisation:
- 2 hours every week
- Study of the:
- basic grammar of the Dutch language
- basic vocabulary of the Dutch language (+/- 1000 most frequent words)
- 8 sections consisting of:
- listening and reading exercises
- lexical and grammatical exercises
- speaking exercises (personal questions, role plays)
- several written works
- CEFRL levels of the course:

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language as well as the basic structures of the Dutch language.
- Focus on the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, writing expression and, to a lesser extent, oral expression.
- Being able to use the communicative functions relative to the themes of study and everyday life (greeting and introducing oneself, talking about one's schedule, one's hobbies, making appointments, ordering a meal...)
- Level to be reached: A2 of the CEFRL
- The mastery of level A2 of the CEFRL is a condition to reach level B2 at the end, which is the objective in the KLO's.
The course will allow students to demonstrate scientific precision and a critical mind in the analysis of a complex situation.
Communication :
The course will allow students to communicate efficiently, internally and externally, about a company, organization or project taking into account the multicultural and international features of their environment.
Adaptability :
The course will allow students to adapt their managerial practice to the needs of a fast-evolving world being conscious of the societal, economic, political and environmental issues

Prerequisite knowledge and skills
None: the course is mainly aimed at students who have never studied Dutch.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Each course consists of a combination of:
- reading exercises in relation with the themes of the file
- listening exercises in relation with the themes of the file
- vocabulary exercises in relation with the themes of the file
- grammar exercises based on structures coming from the reading exercises and/or the listening exercises
- speaking exercises (conversations, roleplays...) around the themes discussed in the file
Some reading and listening exercises as well as some vocabulary and grammar exercises, such as translation exercises, will have to be prepared at home.

1) Exam in January (6/20) on the first files of the syllabus 'Dossiers thématiques' and the 'Basiswoordenschat' syllabus, consisting of:
a) grammar and vocabulary exercises (3,5pts)
b) a reading exercise (1,5pt)
c) a listening exercise (1,5pt)
2) Exam in June (9/20) on the last files of the syllabus 'Dossiers thématiques', consisting of:
a) grammar and vocabulary exercises (5pts)
b) a reading exercise (2pts)
c) a listening exercise (2pts)
3) Continuous assessment (5/20) consisting of:
a) 3 vocabulary / grammar tests (2pts)
b) 2 written expressions (3pts)
NB(1): All global results inferior to 10/20 are rounded down to the nearest unit for the first as well as for the second session.
NB(2): A request for an attendance mark or an absence for any part of the exam automatically results in an attendance mark or 0/20 as a global mark for the whole examination.
NB(3): A student who is absent on the day (mentionned in the planning) of a test or a written expression part of the continuous assessment will only be allowed to take it at another moment if a medical certificate is sent to the teacher within the week following the absence.
Organisation of the second session:
In June, students with an global mark of less than 10/20 on the January exam may retake the entire exam if they wish.
On the other hand, students with a global mark of over 10/20 may retake the June exam only.
In August, students with an global mark of less than 10/20 must retake:
- the grammar + vocabulary exam of January
- the grammar + vocabulary exam of June
- a listening comprehension (common for January and June)
- a reading comprehension (common for January and June)
In August, the continuous assessment is not included in the final result. Its five points are transferred as follows:
- one point is transferred to the grammar + vocabulary exam of January (3 pts > 4 pts).
- one point is transferred to the grammar + vocabulary exam of June (5 pts > 6 pts).
- three points are transferred to a written expression written during the session.
