Learning unit contents
Follow-up of the competences acquired in the MA 1 course "Consecutive Interpreting from French into Spanish". Composed of the courses "Consecutive Interpreting from French into Spanish II" and "Liaison Interpreting French-Spanish". Theoretical reflexion on work conditions, cultural differences and professional codes of conduct linked to the role of the interpreter. Comprehension and use of the vocabulary and terminology of different domains. Practical exercises based on speeches prepared and presented by the trainer or by the students or on audiovisual material.
French-Spanish consecutive interpretation II
Enhancement of speaking skills in the foreign language (Spanish). Acquisition of vocabulary and terminology specific to subjects of general interest and related to current affairs (French-Spanish). Acquisition of memory, sight translation, note-taking, deverbalization and reformulation techniques. Practical exercises based mainly on speeches prepared and delivered by the teacher and the students, as well as on recorded real-life or pedagogical speeches on different subjects of general interest and related to current affairs with different degrees of difficulty.
Liaison interpreting
Follow-up of the competences acquired in the MA 1 course "Consecutive Interpreting from French into Spanish". Theoretical reflexion on work conditions, cultural differences and professional codes of conduct linked to the role of the interpreter. This course will mainly focus on business and community interpreting. Comprehension and use of the vocabulary and terminology of relevant sectors. Practical exercises based on dialogs and interviews prepared and presented by the trainer or by the students or on audiovisual material.

French-Spanish consecutive interpretation II
At the end of the course, students will be able to understand a speech in French on a subject of general interest or related to current affairs, identify the structure and reformulate it in correct and natural Spanish, avoiding literal transposition.
Liaison interpreting
Students will be familiar with the different sectors in which liaison interpreting is used, their similarities and differences. Moreover, students will be able to prepare independently different types of assignments. At the end of the course, students will be able do liaison interpreting French-Spanish, adapting the register to the situation at hand.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
High level of listening comprehension in Spanish. Perfect command of French and an advance level of spoken Spanish.
French-Spanish consecutive interpretation II
Continuation of the consecutive interpreting course I. A good command of note-taking techniques for consecutive interpreting is a prerequisite. Excellent listening comprehension of the source language (French). Very good spoken command of the target language (Spanish).
Liaison interpreting
High level of listening comprehension in Spanish. Perfect command of French and an advance level of spoken Spanish.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Presentations and debates. Preparation of vocabulary and terminology at home by the students. Mock assignments and role-plays in class. Feed-back on the individual performance of the students.

Students are required to regularly follow subjects of general interest and current affairs through the different media (TV, Internet, podcasts, press in French and Spanish), as well as study the vocabulary and terminology of different fields at home. Classes will be mainly devoted to practical exercises, followed by comments on the individual performance of the students.

This teaching unit ("Unité d'enseignement," or UE) is subject to the principle of the "note absorbante," which means that the student having obtained a mark below 8/20 for one of the learning activities ("activités d'apprentissage," or AA) will receive a failing grade for the entire unit and will have to retake the failed AA in the second session regardless of the mathematical average of the two AA grades

85 % of the grade: final exam consisting of the consecutive interpreting with note-taking of a speech in French of about 5 minutes into Spanish.
15 % of the grade: work during classes.

(1) Presentation of a cultural topic and comparaison of the reality in a French-speaking country with the reality in a Spanish-speaking country. In Spanish. (50% of the grade).
(2) Written paper on a topic of general interest for liaison interpreting with a French-Spanish glossary (50% of the grade).
Topics to be agreed with the professor beforehand.
