Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

All the mechanisms involved in the immune response of the organism which defends itself against pathogens will be presented during the course. The first part will focus on the ancestral mechanisms of the innate response. The second (and largest) part of the course will be dedicated to the study of the adaptative (or specific) immune response. The chapters' list: o Overview of the immunological system o Cells and organs of the immunological system o Immunoglobulins: structure and functions Gene organization o Major histocompatibility complex: structure and functions o T cell receptor (TCR): structure and functions o B cells: development, activation and differentiation o T cells: development, activation and differentiation o Complement system o Immunological techniques

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Understand the mechanisms developed by the Vertebrates to fight foreign elements and in particular pathogens.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Practical work (MANDATORY) including immunological techniques for the study of a virus

This practical work will be evaluated at the end of the year. Students are therefore invited to carefully read the documents that will be made available, to take notes, to draw up a report (PWP presentation, max 3 slides) of the experiments carried out.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Theoritical Courses as well as practical courses will take place during the 2d semester

Course materials and recommended or required readings

Platform(s) used for course materials:
- eCampus

Further information:

1. All the illustrations used during the course (slide show) will be available on digital format on eCampus
2. The reference book is "Immunologie", de J.Kuby, Eds Dunod. This book is available at the faculty library and in the professor's office.

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

oral exam

Further information:

The evaluation will include the rating for the oral theoretical exam and
the rating obtained for the report

- Oral exam (3/4 of the points):
Two open questions that cover different parts of the course (± 20 minutes of preparation). These questions will be the basis of the discussion during the oral examination. Sub-questions based on these questions will be systematically asked.

- Practical work report (1/4 of the points):
Presentation, during the immunology examination, of the practical work report  (Max 3 PWP slides)

Since practical works are mandatory, failure to present the report will result in a grade of Attendance (P) for the immunology course.
