Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the seminar, students will have mastered the contents and the challenges of the studied topics. In particular, they will be able to:
- understand and critically assess the major challenges in the field of automatic text processing and text data analysis
- read, understand and present (orally and in writing) the contents of contemporary studies in this field;
- discuss those contents with researchers
- develop (oral or written presentation) an idea of one of the domains tackled or in relation with their own personal interests in text data analysis.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
General notions of linguistics.
Good understanding of French and English (spoken and written)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The seminar aims at active participation of the students involved by means of oral presentations, written reviews and discussion.
In concrete terms, the seminar consists of sessions of 2 hours each (every two weeks) centred on the presentation and discussion of the researches of the memebers of the two laboratories associated to the Master.
When appropriate, invited researchers can potentially be asked to participate in the sessions by presenting certain issues and by taking part in the discussion.
In the exam session, students will present an individual presentation of 30 minutes in the context of a collective one-day workshop attended by all students. In the presentation, they will give an account of how they have made the topics addressed in the seminar their own (development of a critical review or a synthesis, identifying an object of study, relating it to the master thesis, etc.)
For each seminar, the student will write a critical report (minimum 2 pages).
The final session will give rise to two pieces of work:
1/ A critical presentation (cf. supra)
2/ A document that synthesizes this presentation and which should be submitted a week before the concluding session (10 to 15 pages + bibliography)
