Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Methodological introduction and general survey of content, including sources, to the Roman religion of the republican and imperial period. The subject is divided into four thematic chapters, taking into account, each time, major chronological milestones, in particular between the republican and imperial periods: deities, places of worship, acts of worship, actors of worship. Readings of articles/book chapters and analysis of documents gradually accompany the theoretical part of the course (for texts, these will be translated documents).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, the student will be able :

- to restore the knowledge acquired in each of the four thematic chapters of the course: deities, places of worship, acts of worship, actors of worship.

- to give an account of the main chronological milestones in the history of Roman religion.

- to explain the main concepts addressed and the specificities of ancient Roman religion (polytheism, orthopraxis, interweaving of politics and religion...).

- to analyze documents, seen in class or not, relating to the subject of the course.

- to mobilize the articles/chapters of books read in class.
