Learning unit contents

The course, which will run throughout the year, will include a History of Germany section (Q1) and a History of France section (Q2).

It will conclude with two sessions (8 and 15 May 2025) providing an insight into the cross-cutting historiography of these two areas through the 'Histoire franco-allemande' series (Presses du Septentrion, 2011-2019).

The History of Germany section will focus on the period 1870-1980, with particular attention to political history and to historiographical questions.

The History of France section will focus on the period 1870-1970, with particular attention to political and institutional history.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Single out the various socio-political changes in French and German contemporary history.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The Germany section will include sources analysis sessions.

The France section will be based on an analysis of political cartoons.
