Learning unit contents
The main objective of this clas is to provide students with a first introduction to key economic notions to adequately understand the societal issues related to the ecological and social transition. After having briefly exposed constrasting approaches, the course will then mainly deal with interdisciplinary field of Ecological Economics. Its main concepts, principles of analysis and methodological tools will be presented and discussed.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Through following this class, students will be led to a fine understanding of key tools and concepts that are require to appropriately grasp the issues linked to the interations between the economic and ecological spheres. This will enable them to build a well-structured and consistent argumentation following a logical sequence.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A basic course in economics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities include:
Theoretical and conceptual sessions illustrated with many examples in an interactive approach (videos, 'role games', etc.)
Conference-class with transition practitioners and ecological economists
Critical readings of 'editorial-type' of scientific papers dealing with crucial topics of transition.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
The main mode of delivery is through interactive lectures.
ppt presentations of the different session will be provided after each class
bibliographical ressources will be made available for those student eager to deepen their knowledge of certain notions and two scientific papers will be given after the last session for the exam.
Course materials and recommended or required readings
The assessment method consist of a written exam:
- restitution of learned knowldege through dshort questions on key notions
- longer questions requiring the adoption of a more cross-cutting understanding of the course as well as the joint use of concepts dissemnited in various parts of the course
- An 'open-book' part consisting in a critical reading of an opinion paper
