Roles played by natural spaces/green spaces in urban and peri-urban areas, emphasis on regulating (especially hydrological) and supporting (biodiversity) ecosystem services
Soil reclamation in urban and peri-urban areas, creation of technosols
Urban hydrology using nature-based solutions
Ecological networks in urban environments
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, students will be able to
- Perform an integrated diagnosis applied to an urban planning project (analysis of bio-physical characteristics on the project's site and connection to larger-scale territorial issues (hydrological watershed, ecological network, ...)
- Conceive realistic development designs using nature-based solutions to optimize ecosystem services (hydrology, biodiversity, heat island, ....).
- Quantify a set of ecosystem services
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
General ecology, general hydrology, soil science
