General introduction: Water-Air-Soil legislative frameworks

Protection of soil resources:

  • Threats to soils: the European framework and the main threats
  • Soil erosion: issues, management solutions.
  • Loss of OM
  • Artificialization
  • Acidification
Protection of water resources:

  • Water resources in Wallonia: methods of collection and water quality
  • The nitrate directive, the PGDA and the pesticide reduction plan
  • Diagnostic tools for the protection of catchments
Protection of air quality

Integrated exercise on a real case.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, students are able to:

  • Mobilize legislative tools for the protection of natural resources;
  • Design protocols for measuring relevant indicators for monitoring threats to resources;
  • Establish a diagnosis and propose appropriate solutions for a case study
