Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course aims to train students in building physics and special techniques with the goal of controlling the indoor climate of buildings while limiting energy consumption. Additionally, the evaluation of the environmental aspects of construction materials and the building's use phase will be addressed in order to minimize their environmental impact throughout the life cycle, thereby contributing to sustainable design.
The theoretical aspects are applied through building energy modeling (BEM) and life cycle assessment (LCA), with the application of LCA methodologies specifically tailored for buildings assessment.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Choose and size heating and air conditionning equipments,
- Master physical quantities and phenomenon involved inside buildings,
- Model physical processes involved in buildings,
- Design an energy efficient infrastructure,
- Perform a sustainability evaluation of a building, according to the Life Cycle Thinking framework,
- Conduct an environmental audit or energy certification
