Teaching in the second semester
Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
- Basics of digital electronics
- The PIC or Arduino environment for programming a microcontroller and creating an original project
- The Campbell Scientific environment and the construction of a weather station
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, the student must be able to interface sensors with an acquisition system to ensure the collection, transmission, storage and visualization of data, in the field of measurements and regulation of climatic and environmental variables.
This course helps build the skill: "Design technological solutions in the environmental field", within professional situations: "Design and size of control and production systems in environmental fields" and "Design equipment for monitoring of living systems in natural or anthropized conditions ».
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
If no official prerequisites are associated with this course, the knowledge and skills worked on in the following courses are useful:
- ELEC0438 - Electricity
- INFO2038 - Computer science and algorithms
- GERE0036 - Instrumentation: sensors and signals
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Basics of digital electronics will be taught (binary numbering, elementary logic gates, combinatorial and sequential integrated circuits) in order to understand the structure of a microcontroller and the important characteristics in the choice of a data acquisition and transmission tool.
Then, two projects will be implemented, in very typical environments:
- The PIC or Arduino environment, flexible, inexpensive (and open-source for Arduino), will be used for data acquisition and control of devices in the laboratory.
- The proprietary, expensive and powerful Campbell Scientific environment will be used to create a weather station
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Additional information:
Face-to-face with lectures (9 hours) and practical work (27 hours), and project completion.
