Learning unit contents
Classification of materials according to structure, composition, porosity, etc.. General characteristics (physical, chemical, mechanical and rheomechanical properties). Materials with hydrocarbon or polymeric binders. Materials with hydraulic binders. Silicates,ceramics and glass. Wood.

Provide the knowledge to be able to select construction materials in accordance with their ability and use. Understand interaction mechanisms of materials with environnement.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The student must know the basics of chemistry and physics to be able to understand the structure of materials and their behavior through their interaction with the environment.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Oral presentation of materials (75%)
- Laboratory experiments: about ten tests on bitumen, plastics and various composite materials (15%)
- Development of lab results and exercizes in classroom.
- Bibliography research projects (group) (10%)
- Factory visit
These activities are obligatory. Students who would not participate or would not present report in due time would not be allowed to present the exam.
