Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This course introduces different sources of renewable energy: solar, wind, biomass, hydroelectricity. For each sector, the course presents the resource, the capture and conversion technologies, dimensioning steps, simulation models and an analysis of environmental impacts.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this learning unit, the student will be able to:

  • Understand, explain and analyze the resources, capture, conversion and storage technologies related to the sectors covered.
  • Carry out a pre-sizing and evaluate the production and/or consumption of the systems studied.
  • For the solar and wind sectors: use digital simulation (with the TRNSYS software) to contribute to the evaluation of the performance of an energy project in one of these sectors.
  • Take into account the environmental impacts associated with each sector.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Basic notions in physics, chemistry and thermodynamics.
Use of a spreadsheet (Excel).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In addition to the activities planned in the schedule, a visit of one or several sites producing renewable energy (hydroelectricity, biomethanization, wind power, photovoltaics, other) will be organized.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face course

Further information:

The course alternates theoretical presentations and practical work sessions devoted to the sizing. Some of them use TRNSYS and Excel software in the computer room.
