Semiology of dental pathologies, including developmental pathologies of the dental cavity
The theoretical concepts taught in the Oral Developmental Pathology course address notions in the broad sense of the word "development". "Development = growth of an organism or an organ" "Development = changes that can appear from the evolution of an individual" This course consists of three distinct parts: PART 1: odontogenesis and anomalies/pathologies of the development of the dental organ This first part deals with the anomalies and pathologies that can occur during the formation and development of the dental organ. The course begins with a brief description of the formation of normal dental structures: description of the embryological formation of dental germs and the different phases of development (odontogenesis) leading to the formation of the normal dental organ and normal dental tissues. Then, the different pathologies or developmental anomalies that are addressed follow the chronology of the development of the dental organ (odontogenesis). For certain pathologies, the clinical picture and the radiological particularities are discussed in depth. The notions of clinical diagnosis and differential diagnosis are also introduced in the specific context of certain anomalies in the development of the dental organ, more frequently encountered in current clinical practice. The Developmental Pathology course is also an approach to learning clinical reasoning and clinical diagnosis and Rx of abnormalities in the development of the dental organ. PART 2: cystic pathologies This second part deals with the cystic pathologies which can occur following an anomaly of the development of the dental organ or following an inflammatory phenomenon. PART 3: Oral pathologies This third part addresses the oral pathologies that can occur during the evolution, growth and development of the individual. The oral development pathology course will cover a non-exhaustive list of oral pathologies acquired during the development of the individual among the most frequently encountered in daily practice in the field of oral care. It constitutes a first approach to learning the clinical diagnosis of certain oral pathologies so as to allow the future dental hygienist to identify the pathology and refer the patient, if necessary, to another health specialist in this specific field.

At the end of the Developmental Pathology course, you
- know the pathologies or anomalies seen during the course, which can occur at different stages of the development of the dental organ.
- know the cystic pathologies seen during the course, whether they are of inflammatory origin or not.
- know the oral pathologies seen during the course, which can occur throughout the life of the individual.
- will be able to identify on the x-ray images a non-exhaustive list of pathologies or anomalies that can occur at the different stages of the development of the dental organ.
- will have acquired the basic notions to recognize different pathologies on the basis of a single clinical examination or on the basis of a clinical examination and a radiological examination.
- will have acquired the basic notions to make a differential diagnosis between certain specific pathologies.
- know the risk factors associated with certain specific pathologies and is able to inform a patient about these risk factors. You will be able to identify the pathologies requiring additional examinations and/or specific treatment and he is able to refer the patient to the appropriate specialist if necessary.

Additional information:
The certification evaluation is organized at the end of the teaching unit in the form of a written exam, in the 1st and 2nd session. Questions of the MCQ/QRM/or/or type, matching tests make it possible to verify knowledge and understanding of the concepts taught. Open questions (with short answers (QROC)), texts to be completed and matching tests assess understanding and the ability to apply the concepts taught (diagnosis, differential diagnosis). Individual consultation of exam papers is possible after deliberation for individual feedback (by appointment).
