Learning unit contents

The course "Documentaire contemporain (cinéma, télévision, web)" focuses on the analysis of films made between the early 1990s and the present day, using approaches to reality and discursive devices that are particularly popular today: performative documentary, faux-documentary, webdocumentary, animated documentary, etc. Through contact with these objects, students will discover and question the latest theoretical findings in the field of of documentary cinema.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Through films and recent theoretical texts, the students will develop analytical skills in the field of contemporary documentary cinema, at the crossroads of media analysis and film studies.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Passive knowledge of English.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course will rely on the watching and the analysis of documentary films. The analysis will be developped in class through discussions with the students. Each session will end with a q&a on the texts (see "required readings"). Students will also be required to attend at least two screenings of the "Territoires secrets" screening series (coorg. Les Grignoux/ULiège).

The course material will consist of the teacher's lectures, the films, excerpts and PPT presentations screened in class, the texts attached to the course sessions, and two films of the "Territoires secrets" screening series (coorg. Les Grignoux/ULiège).

The course takes place every Monday in the second term from 3pm to 6pm in the Gothot Room.
