Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Basic notions of quantum chemistry and of the computation of molecular electronic structure. Application to molecular structure, optical spectroscopy and chemical reactivity. The basic notions are illustrated by exercises and computer lab where the electronic structure of simple systems is computed.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Basic notions of molecular electronic structure and practical applications of quantum chemistry.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Basic notions of quantum mechanics

The course is based on physical and chemical concepts taught during the first three years (general physics, chemical thermodynamics, macroscopic physical chemistry, molecular physical chemistry). In mathematics, the knowledge of derivatives and integrals is required. The student is required to study again by him(her)self those topics that are no longer familiar to him or her.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

10h of exercises and computer lab

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

first quarter

Course materials and recommended or required readings

available

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

written exam ( open-ended questions ) AND oral exam

Additional information:

oral exam on the theory part and written  exam on the exercise part.

To obtain a grade equal or higher than 8/20 it is necessary to obtain a grade equal to at least 8/20 both at the oral and written exams.
