Observation Internship:
The internship is mandatory for students enrolled in the Master of Architecture and Engineering programme : The master students are required to complete at least one internship as part of their program. The internship is usually done at the end of the first year. The internship is mandatory and will be recorded for 3 ECTS in the master year 2 and will be evaluated: Pass or Fail (not counted in the overall graduation grade). If the student failed in his/her internship the graduation diploma will be suspended (a second session or adjournment will take place during September session).
Students doing the internship will be supervised and followed in their steps and their assessment:
The internship tutor = the person responsible for the student in the selected organization. It is with this person that the student will negotiate his/her internship project as well as the practical arrangements (time, duration, tasks, etc.). The tutor will make an assessment with the trainee at the end of the internship.
The internship supervisor (Mr. Shady Attia: shady.attia@ulg.ac.be) = the professor in charge offering work placements and establishes administrative procedures necessary for the smooth running of the internship (insurance, confirmation of dates from the master internship, etc.). He is available to the student for any information or any difficulty occurring during the internship. Finally, it is he who evaluates the internship report and the guides the student during the final presentation.
The student must actually perform four weeks (one month) at his place of training or 152 hours. These four weeks can be broken down in various ways.
Examples: 4 full weeks, 2 days a week for several months, two weeks and one week the next two months...
The breakdown of internships is to be agreed with the tutor. It is advisable to indicate in the training agreement.
Any extension of internship must be in writing to the responsible application internships, and before the date of Completion.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The compulsory internship will enable the student to gain a professional experience to ensure the practical application of teaching at the University.
The educational project, aims and expected internship are:
- to acquire a good knowledge of the industrial world, with increasing levels of responsibility and in diverse industries;
- to integrate into the host company/office by experiencing the knowledge acquired at the university and during previous internships;
- discover the specific working methods in a real business environment and to refine their behavioral and human qualities;
- to prepare for the necessary adaptation to the labor market by geographical, technical and functional mobility;
- to learn to manage their own career and job search;
- to gain work experience recoverable amount vis-à-vis the future employer.

Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
oral exam
- Remote
oral exam
Written work / report
Additional information:
The internship evaluation will be done in two steps:
1. Written evaluation at the end of internship by the hosting coach.
At the end of the internship an evaluation certificate has to be issued by the hosting coach to allow the students to position themselves in relation to their internship project and the activities that they managed within the hosting institution. This evaluative moment is based on a meeting with the hosting coach at the end of the internship. This assessment is made in the form of written assessment rather than a grading. The evaluation certifcate has to be sent to the Ulg professor.
2 The presentation of the internship in front of a jury
Each student is asked to make an oral presentation of his/her internship (8-12 minutes presentation) to the jury. The presentation must be submitted in a power point format as an internship report in the same time. The presentation and report are a key element that will allow the evaluation of the internship by the jury members. This presentation will include at least the following two components:
- Analysis of the host organization (Functional Management of the host)
- Analysis and description of the intern's work and activities
Students who have not completed all the mandatory activities may not be admitted to the
exam (if an exam is organized). The absence of mandatory elements does not allow a
quantified evaluation of the student's work. An "A" grade is therefore awarded in
this case (unless there is a special justification examined fairly by the teacher and
accepted by him).
