Learning unit contents
This intensive English class aims to both further develop students' mastery of English and introduce specialized language through the illustration and use of the specific linguistic features enabling the discussion, analysis, conception, and follow-up of architectural projects.
The organization of this class - around 10 3-hour sessions coupled with online work - allows weekly immersion and thorough work of all the language skills involved in effective communication in the target language through domain-specific workshops highlighting collaboration and feedback with and by peers and tutor.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This class will help students lay the foundation of effective and comfortable communication in English in a professional context through systematic work on the four language skills (i.e., listening, reading, speaking and writing).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
This class is only meant for students who did not pass the B1+ assessment (listening/ reading/ grammar/ vocabulary) in bachelor's.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
These objectives will be pursued through:
- the analysis of authentic documents (press and videos),
- written production exercises including note-taking, summary-writing and paraphrasing of specialized publications,
- formal and informal oral presentation and discussion of and around architectural projects,
- learning how to actively participate in a work-related conversation (e.g., project management and debating),
- introducing the fundamentals of professional correspondence and project description in writing,
- systematic analysis of relevant elements of advanced grammar structures.

Marked classwork (25%): 1/20 selected online grammar tests + 1/20 in-class writing + 3/20 group oral presentation
Final Exam (75%): 12/20 written exam (reading and listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, writing) + 3/20 oral exam
In case of a second session, the classwork marks will be considered again and account for 25% of the final mark.
