The course will review the ways in which the field of economic anthropology has been constituted (diversity of economic modes, analytical currents) and the themes addressed (gift, money, consumption, market, etc.) before exploring the questions raised, past and present, by the deployment of capitalism in different regions of the world.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of the course is to lay the foundations for an anthropology of capitalism. At the end of the course students will be able to present how this issue has been approached in the discipline, and propose research directions for analyzing the dynamics of capitalism from an anthropological perspective.
