Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the anatomy of the various human body systems, enabling students to acquire essential anatomical knowledge for understanding fundamental physiological processes. It aims to help students understand the general layout of the human body's architecture, which will serve as a foundation for more specialized anatomy concepts that will be covered later in their studies (Medicine - Dentistry). Special attention is given to developing spatial vision and descriptive skills. Throughout this course, students are expected to acquire the descriptive ability that is valuable not only in anatomy but also in histology and other descriptive biological sciences.
A comprehensive list of learning outcomes, organized by subject matter, is available online and specifies the specific objectives for each section. Each field (Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Movement Sciences, and Medical Physics) has access to all the course resources. This list of objectives allows students to select the resources relevant to their field and structure their learning accordingly.

The course designed for future doctors, dentists, and biomedical science students also includes, in addition to other sections, an introduction to general embryology, which clarifies the formation of the three embryonic layers, essential for understanding the architecture of the human body.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The student must fluent in french language and must control basic descriptive geometrical tools (axes, planes and projections)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

5 workshops are organized (10 for medical,sbim and dentists students). Some workshops will be held in the "Institut of human Anatomy" and some will be avalaible on line on the E-campus on line course.

Attendance is compulsory for both of them and subject to cotation.

Slides, evaluation tools, documents required for the demonstation sessions and sketsches performed during the lectures are available on the on line course.

 

To access to the on-line course the student has to complete a 3D visual test and an on-line lesson devoted to anatomical description and it's tools in the specific field of human anatomy.

A reference book is accessible online: https://e-publish.uliege.be/anatomie/ this book is a reference with larger objectives than those selected for the present course, we encourage the use of the listing of learning objectives available on line.


Reference book: Possession of that reference book is not essential, illustrations from the lectures, syllabus and demonstrations should be of suffisance for most students.
Nevertheless, for those who desire larger information, we recommand " Gray's Anatomy for students" (Drake, Vogl, Mitchell) (Elsevier editor) (french version available), Kamina or Netter

Additional information:

Final evaluation is a written test based on MCQ (eventually based on anatomical sketches analysis) and eventually on performing schematic sections of the human body.

Attention, students in Physical Master, Medical orientation will be evaluated trough oral assessement

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

High speed internet connexion offers the best way to connect to the on line course, especially for the demonstrations based on videos or animations. A multimedia lab with high speed internet connexion computers is accessible for all students in front of the Human Anatomical department (Bureau pédagogique) Other multimedia labs are available in the university. Wireless ressources are available in most of the classrooms.
