Learning unit contents
The lecture will be divided into three main parts:
- The first component is related to the spatial aspect: learning how to interpret and use maps acquired by drone/satellite. One of the objectives will be to monitor vegetation, to learn how to calculate and interpret vegetation indices, and to define homogeneous management zones in fields.
- The second part will focus at the cropping systems scale: understanding and learning to use a crop model, using it to understand water stress and deploying it to manage nitrogen fertilization homogeneous areas (spatialization of inputs).
- The third part will focus on the interactions between animal and plant components within agro-ecosystems. Through colletive thinking and the manipulation of models, the idea is to see what are the links between grassland production and animal behaviour, and vice versa.
De facto, this course stands in the context of smart farming, with (i) considerations at the farm level (beyond the plot, which is the domain of precision farming) and (ii) in relation to the decision-making process that farmers face.
