Learning unit contents
This course gives through a deep approach the main aspects of fish biology and physiology in aquaculture and the relation with fish welfare. It is dived in 7 chapters:
-Global status of fisheries and aquaculture
-General introduction, general fish physiology, notion of animal welfare
-Stress physiology in aquaculture
-Reproduction and stress management
-Growth and stress management
-Improving growth and productivity
-Legislation and ethics
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this course, the student will have deep bases necessary for the comprehension of fisdh biology and physiology in an aquaculture context and in regard with the fish welfare.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Biology and chemistry, cellular biology, animal physiology
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The courses (theoretical and interactive discsussion) is assumed by the teachers and teached in 12x3 hours parts.
Praticals will be organized (reproduction and fish manipulations) at the Research Aquaculture station in Tihange (30 km far from the Sart Tilman)

Oral examination : 3 open questions will be random draw by the student. He will have 30 minutes for préparation of the answer and 30 minutes for the oral interrogation by the teacher (10 minutes by questions).
