Learning unit contents
The course offers a theoretical and practical introduction to the translation of different types of texts (informative, persuasive, expressive texts) from French into Dutch. The topics covered will mainly be of a general nature (e.g. society, tourism, education, environment, health), although some more specific topics (e.g. literature, economics, law) may also be introduced. We will use mostly (semi-)authentic texts. In addition, the course aims to deepen the students' lexical and grammatical knowledge as well as their translation skills into the target language.

Additional information:
During the first term:
- Present a translation exercise, cannot be rescheduled (10% of the final grade)
At the end of the first term:
- A written translation test (2 hours, translation of an unknown text; 40% of the final grade).
During the second term:
- Oral presentation of a theoretical text about corpus-based translation studies, cannot be rescheduled (10% of the final grade)
- Questions about theoretical texts (5% of the final grade)
At the end of the second term:
- A written translation test (2 hours, translation of an unknown text; 35% of the final grade).
