Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course aims to fill the gaps observed in chemistry during the first semester. It will focus on revisions of the topics seen in the course of preparatory chemistry for motricity sciences, part II (CHIM0711).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this teaching unit, the student should master the notions seen in the course of preparatory chemistry for motricity sciences, part II, of the second quadrimester (CHIM0711). He/she should have filled his gaps in chemistry to approach the exam session with more confidence.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The main prerequisite for this course is to be motivated, organized, and diligent to follow this course in the best conditions, as it will require a regular and sustained work. The teaching team will be at your disposal to help and encourage you.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The Chemistry Learning Support Activities consist of a series of activities designed to help you prepare for the June/August chemistry examination. They are taught by teaching assistants who are familiar with the difficulties encountered by first-time bachelor students since they are also teachers in secondary education.
These activities includes online revisions including podcasts of the theoretical course and of the exercise sessions (solved exercises) on MyUliege and formative tests allowing you to be assessed very regularly on e-campus. A direct link to the Chemistry MOOC is also available on e-campus. Face-to-face sessions will complete these revisions. The first two remediation sessions of the Q2 chemistry course (CHIM0711) will be devoted to revising the fundamental notions seen in the first term. These sessions will allow you to clarify certain poorly understood points by asking your questions. Do not hesitate to study the theoretical course before these face-to-face activities and to prepare a list of questions to ask the remediers.
The Forum is also available on e-campus to ask your questions and consult the answers to questions asked by other students. It's a real database. Do not hesitate to use it!
These activities will be supplemented by the MOOC Chemistry, which can help you better understand certain concepts. Regarding this MOOC, two options are possible depending on the extent of your gaps:
- if your lacks are specific, you can easily navigate through the MOOC using the keyword index. A simple click on a given keyword gives you access to an explanatory video and/or exercises;
- if your lacks are more significant, we advise you to follow this MOOC in its entirety.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Blended learning
Additional information:
2 face-to-face remediation sessions (2 first sessions of CHIM0711 of Q2)
Podcasts on MyUliege
Course documents on e-Campus
Self-assessment tests on e-Campus. Generation of examination-type questionnaires (questions taken from a database).
Discussion forum on e-Campus (ask your questions and see also the resolved questions asked by other students)
The Chemistry MOOC will also be used to help you understand certain concepts.
Recommended or required readings
The slides of the course of preparatory chemistry for motricity sciences, part I, of the first semester are available on e-campus.
The pdf of the theoretical recalls and of the exercises are available on e-campus ("Répétitions Q2" tab of the e-campus space corresponding to your chemistry course of the second term CHIM0711).
The following two reference books allow you to approach the subject differently and to check your understanding of the course. They also contain additional exercises.
- Chimie générale by Chang and Overby, 5th edition, 2019, ISBN 978-2-8073-2676-7
- Chimie des solutions by Chang and Overby, 5th edition, 2019, ISBN 978-2-8073-2675-0
Continuous assessment
Additional information:
This course aims to prepare you for the examination of the 2nd/3rd evaluation periods (June/August) of the course of preparatory chemistry for motricity sciences, part II, of the second quadrimester (CHIM0711). It does not include an examination as such, but it will include formative assessments on e-campus.
Work placement(s)
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
Participation in chemistry learning support activities is optional but can be very beneficial for students who follow them regularly. The student who chooses to attend these activities is required to respect the rules of punctuality, silence, attention and basic respect. The use of mobile phones is not permitted during sessions; they must be placed in silent mode and stored in bags or clothing. Some rules promoting a good working climate are described in the document "Presentation of study assistance sessions".
Eight to nine sessions are organized in the first semester in person. They are included in the timetables on Celcat. They allow students to ask questions and review in detail and depth the resolution of poorly understood exercises during repetitions or additional exercises to ensure they have a good understanding of the material.
A series of "Work Modules" addresses the various subjects covered during the course. These documents contain theoretical reminders, exercise statements as well as some examples of questions from previous exams. The first 4 work modules are intended to reactivate the basic concepts, most of which were seen in secondary school, the following ones cover the various subjects seen during BAC 1.
The various notes can be found on e-campus in the "Remediations - Study assistance" section in the "Work modules" tab.
