Learning unit contents
This course includes the practical application of electronic media to organise and publish related scientific content regarding ethnic and migration studies. Students will learn how to manage a website and social media, write and publish articles on the website, create videos, audios and other supports.
Students will be required to define and organise the objectives and work tasks in a collaborative working environment. Students will be encouraged to develop different writing styles depending on the target audience.
As the website will be publically available students must respect ethical norms regarding content and style.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course aims to provide students will the practical competencies to develop and manage a website on which their content is published.
Many career roles indicate the requirement to manage websites, social media and write content suitable for the target audience. For example, community projects, NGO's, researchers, think tanks or policy analysts.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
As the course is taught in English students are expected to have a working knowledge of the language.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- The primary teaching method is task-oriented study where students will work collaboratively to achieve defined objectives. Students will research and analyse content from various sources to identify different communication styles (e.g. academic, policy, journalist/all public, podcasts, interviews, videos, critiques, social media posts).
- Students will define the objectives of the various content to be created
- Every student must submit a personal plan with a selection of outputs amounting to 2000 points. Deadline: 13th October 2022.
- The personal plan indicates the date of delivery of each single outputs planned in the personal plan.
- The outputs submitted are delivered every Thursday at 5pm
- The oral presentation of the outputs takes place during the Friday session following the day of delivery
- The outputs are evaluated during the Friday class through peer deliberation and evaluation
- An evaluation grid (co-constructed by the students and the professor) is made available
- During the peer evaluation, every student is allowed to freeze one and only peer's mark
- The final mark for the course is the sum of the results of the evaluation of each individual output

Students will be provided at the start of the semester with a list of recommended readings to allow them to properly construct the website, students are strongly encouraged to read these articles.

First session:
Students will be graded on the practical application of skills to develop and publish content on the website, the creation of relevant content and an oral presentation of the work throughout the semester.
- Practical application (5 points): the website design, layout and management.
- The content (10 points): the articles that are produced, according to their scientific relevance, correct referencing, respect of norms and ethical standards, and meeting audience expectations.
- Oral presentation (5 points): presentation of the methods, collaborative work and competencies developed throughout the semester.
