Learning unit contents

All sectors of activity, including the health sector, are affected by the wave of digitalisation. Whether in terms of patient care or task automation, the integration of digital technologies within the hospital is becoming increasingly prevalent. This of course brings a whole range of benefits, but it also brings risks and challenges on a human level. This course aims to introduce the concept of digital transformation and to explore the key issues related to what is commonly referred to as e-health.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, students will be able to...

  • define the concept of digital transformation
  • distinguish between digital technology and digitalization strategy
  • build a digital strategy construction approach
  • discuss general e-health issues
  • present a concrete digital transformation project in the field of health care

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

None.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Learning will take place through :

  • participation in theory sessions
  • participation in guest lectures
  • a reading portfolio
  • the completion of a group work

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Blended learning

Additional information:

The teaching mode will be mainly face-to-face. Some interactive sessions could be organised online (especially for the coaching part)

Recommended or required readings

In addition to the course materials consisting of the slides presented in the sessions, a reading portfolio will also be made available and evaluated.

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

written exam

Additional information:

The final grade will be composed of the individual assessment (a written exam, the exact form of which is still to be defined) and the group assessment (a piece of work to be handed in before the exam session).

Each of these parts will count for half of the final grade. It will be compulsory to pass both parts to pass the course (minimum 10/20). In case of failure in one of the parts, the low mark is therefore absorbing.

In the second session, the individual assessment will take the form of an oral examination. In case of failure in the group work, a new version of the work will be required (possibility to get feedback on the first version).
