Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Physiology

1. Growth and maturation. 2. Physical abilities of the child. 3. Specific physiological concepts in children.

Training

The course consists of six theoretical sessions. After an introduction on the peculiarities of each age group the course addresses the specificities of the training of the physical qualities in the child. The course introduces long-term development concepts such as LTAD. Several issues related to sports practice in young children are discussed: (1) The problematic of early sport specialization. (2) The adaptation of the sport and the equipment to the characteristics of the children. (3) The interindividual difference in physiological maturity.
(4) Competitions adapted to children.
Examples of child-friendly best practices will be presented through different video clips.
Training examples for the different physical qualities are also proposed.models of competitions adapted to the children

Psychomotor skills of the child

It relates more particularly partim driving fundamental education for children aged 3 to 6 years. After presenting the characteristics of this population, the course explains the goals of adapted physical education to kindergarten children. The content of lessons, but also how to deal with this content will then be discussed.

Motor skills training in adolescents

This partim concerns more specifically the age group between 8 and 14 years and reviews the characteristics of this population as well as pedagogical principles for school and leisure physical and sport activities for these learners. It concerns also the social aspects of competitive sport for young people.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Physiology

Analyze the growth process and its implications for physical activity in young patients.

Training

Be able to analyze and plan a sport suitable for children and adolescents.
Be aware of the risks associated with early hyperspecialization and the importance of long-term development programs

Psychomotor skills of the child

After the course, students should know:
-Psychomotor development of children up to age 6; -Different approaches to the "psycho"; -The goals of basic education drive; The perceptual skills, developed between 3 and 6 years; Large-fundamental movements to be included in the education drive, and the operation sequences of development and its practical use in the educational approach; -How to assess visual-motor -The educational approach based on the characteristics of children, activity and context; -How to use the equipment psychomotor; -The different criteria of addiction to water; -The material of addiction to water and the pedagogical approach in this specific context.

Motor skills training in adolescents

- To provide students with the most exhaustive lighting on Intervention in physical and sport activities with the concerned age group.
- To give students the opportunity to analyse practices in the field.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Physiology

Knowing the growth process and the basics of human physiology.

Training

Introduction to physical training, performance factors and performance evaluation are prerequisites for this module.

Psychomotor skills of the child

This teaching uses concepts that are discussed in the context of other left.

Motor skills training in adolescents

This partim calls upon concepts which were approached within the framework of the other partims. The experiences acquired by the students during the practical courses and in their personal activities constitute references to which they will be encouraged to resort.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Physiology

A version of the slides proposed during lectures is posted on the website myULg. When a practical course is proposed, students must attend to the sessions. Their presence is controlled at the beginning of each lesson

Training

Courses ex cathedra.

Psychomotor skills of the child

Students will make 3 half-days of observation before CEREKI regulate themselves groups of children for three half days. An evaluation of the service will be conducted during all three sessions.

Motor skills training in adolescents

Observations and analysis of practices in school and leisure contexts are planned.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face course

Training

Face-to-face

Psychomotor skills of the child

This teaching (theory and practice) takes place in semester 6. Six sessions of theory are provided in the schedule. The organization of practical activities is presented in the first theory lesson.

Motor skills training in adolescents

That course (theoretical and practical parts) is organized during the second semester. The learning are based on the flipped classroom method: students have an access to different ressources (scientific papers, books chapters, videos) on an online platform before each theoretical lesson in which questions related to those ressources are discussed and synthetised with a link to the professional practice.
Four theoretical lessons are planned. In parallel, students are doing observations on the field in sport and school contexts. Then, two lessons are dedicated to those observations (good practices sharing) before a last lesson dedicated to the building, in groups, of a fictitious practical lesson that will request students to use theoretical and practical learnings of the course.
The organization of the course is further described during the first theoretical lesson.

Recommended or required readings

Psychomotor skills of the child

Lecture notes will be available at the beginning of semester 6. An electronic copy of slides shown during the theoretical sessions are available to students on the website MyULg.

Motor skills training in adolescents

A pdf version of the slides and documents proposed during the theoretical lessons is posted on the Website myULg.
Access to the online platform is given from one week before the first theoretical lesson.

Assessment methods and criteria

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions )

Written work / report

Continuous assessment

Other : practical training - cereki

Additional information:

The theoretical part will be evaluated through an exam that includes 8 to 10 short open questions (or MCQs) on all the material covered in the module.

The final theoretical grade will count for 80% of the points.

The practical grade will include the psychomotricity internship (Pr Jidovtseff -CEReKi: 50% of the practical evaluation) and the motor learning internship (Pr Mouton: 50% of the practical evaluation), and will count for 20% of the final evaluation of the module.

A mark lower than 9/20 in theory or practice implies a final mark <10/20

A serious deficiency (grade < 8/20) in one of the theoretical parts (physiology, training, psychomotricity and motor education) or in one of the practical parts implies a failure of the whole module.

Physiology

Evaluation to be defined in the context of integrated assessment (Review writing incorporated in June).

Additional information:

The half of the note deals with the assessment of the activities during the course span: 20% for the presentation of good practices, 20% for the observation report, and 10% for the participation during the lessons flipped classroom).
The second part of the note is provided by the assessment of the student's answer to open ended questions asked during the module's exam.

Work placement(s)

Cereki course and adolescent motor education course organized by the course instructor

Psychomotor skills of the child

The internship at the CEReKi is a first step in observing the supervision of kindergarten groups during sports day. The students will have to observe (10h) not only the content of the sessions, but in addition be attentive to the pedagogical approach used by the CEReKi instructors with a population of kindergarten children.

Following these observations, the students will have to take charge of groups of children during three half-days (7 activities minimum). They will have to prepare their sessions on the basis of the cards proposed by the CEReKi and to demonstrate their aptitude to take care of a group of children in a suitable way.
