  • Introduction and weathering
  • Erosion and transport
  • Deposition, granulometry of sediments and sedimentary structures
  • Post-sedimentary evolution
  • Detrital sediments
  • Continental and marine carbonates
  • Bioconstructions
  • Organic sediments, siliceous deposits
  • Phosphorites and iron sediments
  • Evaporites, volcanosedimentary deposits
  • Sedimentary sequences.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To acquire the basics of sedimentology and sedimentary petrology: understanding of sedimentary processes and interpretation of sedimentary rocks.


This course contributes to the learning outcomes I.1, I.3 of the MSc in geological and mining engineering.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

General geology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures (in french) with slides (english), movies and rock samples.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face. Lectures in lecture rooms of buildings B18 or B20.
