Learning unit contents

The course is made of three main parts:

1. Clarification of the main concepts
1.1. Land and property 1.2. Land values 1.3. Property rights 1.4. Market 1.5. Urban land supply 1.7. Land and property developments
2. The main economic mechanisms
2.1. Perfect competition and the formation of prices 2.2. Property values at the inter-market scale 2.3. Property values at the intra-market scale 2.4. Land and property developments 2.5. Land and property investments
3. land policy 3.1. What is land policy? 3.2. Social equity and spatial quality

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In relation to geography
To integrate the comprehension of land and property mechanisms in the general organisation of urban spaces

In relation to planning and governance
To develop knowledges in the domain of land policy


In relation to geomotrology

To complete the lectures in law, architecture and building in order to prepare the students to the property evaluation

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Courses : "Introduction to spatial plannning"
To be open-minded concerning social and economic problems.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Seminars animated by expert and professionals of the real estate sector.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Alternatively phases of theoretical lectures, phases of student presentation and external experts presentation. The presence is compulsary for the sessions with the experts (the absence will have to be justified)

Additional information:

Via an oral exam on both, the theoretical lectures and the seminars (100 % of the quotation).

Depending on the number of students, the assessment may be carried out via a written exam. For students who did not pass the written exam or wish to improve their rating, an oral evaluation will be made possible at the end of the session. The final rating will then correspond to the average of the ratings relating to the two exams.
