Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Knowing how to train a physical quality; measure the intensity of a workout; organize workouts in relation to each other within a week; Considering the progression from week to week and planning a workout over a year are all essential ingredients for a successful quality workout.
The practical course, given throughout the year, will provide a concrete illustration in the field of the concepts seen in theoretical courses. It will also offer practical scenarios and exercises which will exercise the student in the reflexive approach essential in sports training.
Bodybuilding skills (training, execution of movements and knowledge of functional anatomy) will also be developed from practical courses but also from the online application Muscle & Motion.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, the student should know:
-the different methods of training physical qualities seen in the lessons (energy, endurance, strength, speed, flexibility, plyometrics, etc.);
-the basic principles of bodybuilding;
-the main variations of strength training exercises, with or without equipment, as well as the muscle groups that are used
- and understand the main muscle training methods according to the objectives
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
-to carry out a simple training for each quality seen during the course;
- to organize the development of training sessions within a week (microcycle) and several weeks (macrocycle);
-to organize the evolution of the quantity (volume) and quality (intensity) of work throughout the year through the different training periods and for different sports models.
-to propose muscular exercises adapted according to a goal, to give adequate execution instructions and to correct the position if necessary.
-identify the main errors when performing a weight training exercise and suggest appropriate correction instructions
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The basic course of training follows the course "determinants of athletic performance" and appears as a prerequisite for the course "Training high-level". A good knowledge of sport in general is necessary. The course "Human Biochemistry", of "Human Physiology" and "motor skills and basic sport" are seen as essential prerequisites.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical courses will be conducted throughout the year in order to meet the learning objectives. A course book will accompany the students throughout their sessions. Exercises will be done at home in preparation for some sessions, and some learning will be considered at a distance.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Toutes les informations relatives au cours seront détaillées dans le Vade Mecum distribué en début d'année académique.
Recommended or required readings
Lecture notes will be available fon My Uliege
Written work / report
Continuous assessment
Out-of-session test(s)
Additional information:
The practical assessment is based on scores in three areas:
1)Continuous assessment counts for 55% of the points and incorporates the following:
- course attendance
- level of commitment throughout the year, motivation -- behavior
- exercises performed during the year and the course booklet
- functional anatomy tests.
2) The physical tests which count for 15% of the points.
3) The practical test on functional anatomy skills (knowledge of muscle groups, knowledge of criteria for movement execution and knowledge of corrections) will be taken at the end of the year and will count for 30% of points.
A grade lower than 9/20 in any of these three parts will result in a failure of the entire course.
