Learning unit contents

The Roman law lectures (special questions) will change subject from year to year.

For 2022-2023, the subject was: "The legal condition of women in Rome and today".

It will not be organised in 2023-2024.

The course is organised in "inverted classroom", which means that it is the students (in groups of 2) who teach the subject to there felloww students.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course aims to study a legal topic in Roman Law and to compare with the modern situation.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

It is very useful to have had a roman law course before attending this course.

In order to help the students, a MOOC of introduction in Roman law is at their disposal.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is given in the form of a "reverse class". This means that students will present part of the material in groups of two.
The distribution of the groups and the subjects to be presented will take place during the first two classes.
The presentation sessions are organised during the spring (or Easter) holidays. It is mandatory that all students attend these (usually two) presentation days.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Lectures will take place during the second semester in presence of the studients.

Recommended or required readings

"La condition juridique de la femme à Rome" by Roger Vigneron and Jean-François Gerkens

The quality of the presentations will be decisive for the final mark. An oral examination on all the topics covered in the presentations will allow for adjustments during the examination session.
