Learning unit contents

The aim of this course is to study human conduct which is punishable according to Belgian criminal law and certain specific laws. This involves highlighting the elements that constitute an offence, their doctrinal understanding and their legal application

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The purpose of this course is to provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject to prepare them for professional life. This course also aims to make students aware of the legislative choices in criminalizing different acts.

Ex cathedra classes during the 2nd semester.
A number of casus sessions may be organised. For students going on an exchange programme, this class will be replaced by a written piece of work on the doctrinal and jurisprudential examination of criminalization by penal/criminal law (20-25 pages) to be chosen with the teacher (work to be handed in on 11th June for the 1st session or 18th August for the 2nd session.

Recommended or required readings

No syllabus. The bibliographical references are provided during class and students are asked to consult a number of them to complete their study of the subject. Students must have an up-to-date copy of the legal texts.
