Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The techniques involved in the immune response will be applied in the practical part of the course. The student will be put in a real situation requiring the implementation of different techniques relating to immunology such as the purification of immune cells, their analysis by flow cytometry and titration of antibodies.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students will be able to understand and to use theorical and pratical approaches in immunology.

The formation aimed:

   - to learn methods commonly used in immunology that are based on the reaction  antibody/antigens (e.g. ELISA, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy)

   - To use knowledge in fundamental immunology to understand therapeutics strategies used to treat inflammatory diseases and cancers.

   - To aquire skills asked by biotechnologies and biotherapies companies

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Prerequisite:

CHIM9321-1 - Immunologie

BIOL 2015-3 - Biologie moléculaire

CHIM0716-1 - Du gène à la protéine

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The practical work will address the principles of immunology in an integrated manner. Students are invited to carefully read the documents which will be made available before the practicals, to take notes and to write a report about their experiments. This report will include a synthesis of the basic principles, the results and a discussion.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face course

Additional information:

Assistance at the practicals is mandatory.

Recommended or required readings

The experimental protocols and slides presented during the practical sessions will be provided. A reference book (Immunology by J.Kuby, Eds Dunod) can be consulted optionally in order to improve the understanding of principles of the different techniques.
