Learning unit contents
- Introduction : genetics and the organism. - The support of genetic information in eucaryots. - The chromosome theory of inheritance : mitosis, meiosis. - The modifications of genetic material : genic, chromosomic and genomic mutations. - The Mendelian analysis : principles and applications to haploid and euploid organisms; applied problems. - The development of the Mendelian analysis : relation between genes, linkage, sex-linked inheritance, cytoplasmic inheritance; applied problems - Introduction to population genetics with applied problems. - Introduction to quantitative genetics with applied problems.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
After completing the course the student is expected to -explain the basis of inheritance and genetic variation in eucaryots -assess the influence of biological factors on the genetics of eucaryots -analyse the properties of Mendelian, quantitative and population genetics -resolve basic problems of formal genetics, quantitative and population genetics

Additional information:
This teaching unit is composed of two parts which are under the responsibility of Prof. Ludivine Lassois and Prof. Nicolas Gengler.
During the periode of teaching, online exercises can be evaluated (continuous assessment).
The examination will take place at the date and time scheduled in time schedule. The examination material includes all the chapters seen with the teachers, in face-to-face or distance learning, theory and practice.
Learning achievements will be evaluated through questions relating to theoretical restitution, reflective questions based on your understanding of the course and your ability to solve exercises similar to those seen in the course.
The evaluation time will be limited to max 3 hours. The questions will be clear and precise so that the student is not confronted with questions related to the understanding of the question. Teachers will not be available to answer questions about the subject matter or the interpretation of the questions.
The final mark will be calculated on a pro rata basis according to the hours of each speaker.
