Learning unit contents
The internship is a substantial individual project that has to be completed in a private company, in a research center, or in a research lab outside ULiege. It represents approximately 2 months of full-time work. The topic is usually given by the company and approved by a promoter. This latter has to be an academic member of the University of Liege, an FNRS permanent researcher affiliated to ULiege, or a senior scientist at CSL who teaches at ULiege.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
During the internship, the student will apply the knowledge he/she acquired during his/her engineering studies to a project driven by either a company or a research center. At the end of the internship, the student will be used to work in a different environment, e.g. a private company. He/she will have discovered specific techniques to model or characterize physical phenomena, in a real engineering context. The student will prove that he/she is able to achieve a substantial work that involves his/her theoretical and practical skills. The work will comprise a preliminary study, a realization and an evaluation.
This course contributes to the learning outcomes I.2, V.1, V.2, V.3, VI.1, VII.2, VII.4, VII.6 of the MSc in engineering physics.

Additional information:
The internship can be made in the same company as the Master's thesis, but both must be on sufficiently different projects. The internship will be evaluated with distinct report and presentation. The evaluation by the internship committee will be based on:
a. Internship report (weight 40%)
The student will submit a report within 3 weeks from the end of the internship, and before the deadline fixed by the president of the jury. The report will comprise:
- A general overview of the company (2 pages)
- The goals of the internship (1 page)
- The work methodology and the description of tasks (10-15 pages)
- The obtained results (5 pages)
- The conclusion (incl. personal development) and future work (2 pages)
b. Presentation (weight 40%)
The student will present his internship to the internship committee and to the president of the jury, possibly during the exam session. The presentation will be in English.
c. Evaluation from the company (weight 20%)
At the end of the internship, the mentor from the company will be asked to comment on the quality of the internship, along the lines defined on the faculty website.
