Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course is divided into three parts. The first looks back at the social science classics on capitalism. The second presents the main themes (interest, markets, consumption, ...) through which anthropologists have approached this issue. Finally, the third part takes a more in-depth look at the anthropological literature on work and entrepreneurship. The ideas developed throughout the course are illustrated by examples drawn from the teacher's research in the DRCongo and elsewhere.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the course is to lay the foundations for an anthropology of capitalism. At the end of the course students will be able to present how this issue has been approached in the discipline, and propose research directions for analyzing the dynamics of capitalism from an anthropological perspective.
