Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The consequences of aggressions (stress) on cells and tissues are studied: reversible injury, cell death by necrosis, apoptosis or autophagy, tissue necroses, adaptation processes at the cell or tissue level, cell or tissue overloading.
Next, the subsequent reactions are discussed: inflammation, immunity, repair, healing.
The hypersensitivy reactions contribute to cell and tissue damage; some particular cases such as tuberculosis, graft rejection, auto-immune diseases are reviewed.
Vascular diseases as well as pathological conditions leading to thrombosis and embolism are studied and their consequences, ie. infarcts, are described.
The study of benign and malignant tumors include morphological features and biological properties as well as an overview on their etiology and pathogenesis.

Practical courses: 1) at the microscope; two sessions of two hours (30 to 40 students) preceded by an explanation lecture.
2) on-line auto-evaluation (false or true questions based on concrete cases).
Modalities : Practical courses at the histology & pathology room (B36, niv -1, 4000 Sart Tilman); assistance mandatory and checked; no interrogation but appreciation on the participation to the evaluation on-line.
