Contenus de l'unité d'enseignement
This course is focused on the application of urban planning and transport planning principles to a practical case study in an urban context. From a theoretical point of view, different principles to stimulate the shift towards carbon-free cities will be explained, focusing in particularly on the design of car-free city centers. Furthermore, an explicit focus will be laid on the development of intelligent urban and transport systems.
The different concepts explained in the theory classes will then be put in practice. To this end, the students first will perform an excursion during which practical applications of the previously discussed theoretical concepts will be demonstrated. Consequently, the students have to realize a group work, in which an integrated urban transport plan will be developed to a pre-defined case study. In the division of the groups, a mixture of architectural, geological and construction engineers is envisaged to foster the integrations of different viewpoints.
Acquis d'apprentissage (objectifs d'apprentissage) de l'unité d'enseignement
At the end of this class, the students are able to address interpendencies beween urban and transportation planning, both at the city, neighborhood and street scale. They understand the impact of urban organisation on the demand for transport and are capable to design effective solutions to promote a modal shift owards sustainable transport modes at the local scale.
Savoirs et compétences prérequis
The students should have followed some course on urban planning and GIS analysis before attending this course.
Activités d'apprentissage prévues et méthodes d'enseignement
The course is based on a combination between theoretical classes and a practical assignement. The practical assignement is organized as a living lab, with excanges with local stakeholders.
