This course is an introduction to the study of political science ("Introduction to political science" and "Introduction à la science politique - SPOL1101-3" question the same concepts).
During this course, we will study:
- different theoretical approaches and concepts of political science (power, legitimacy, participation,...);
- political ideologies (liberalism, socialism, communism,...);
- the State (roles, functions, organizations and transformations);
- elections, forms of representation and electoral behaviour;
- political parties, movements and lobbies;
- ...

The course aims to give students tools to understand the political environment and various social issues:
- political and social challenges;
- changes and transformations of political institutions;

The course consists of three parts.
- ex cathedra courses during which students are invited to participate;
- case studies and questions that students must answer by mobilizing the concepts studied.
- the mandatory reading of a political science book that deals with a contemporary phenomenon (the book's references will be given in class)
In this sense, attendance at the course is important and recommended.
Mode d'enseignement (présentiel, à distance, hybride)
The course is ex cathedra.
It is also structured by reflection and discussion sessions between students. They are required to answer specific questions by mobilizing the concepts studied.
For some chapters, reading an article or a speech is recommended by the teacher.

The course is based on the notes prepared by the teacher, a compulsory book to read and also various articles in political science and speeches.
