Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course covers concepts related to "river" ecosystems modeling, integrated modeling of the water cycle as well as decision making and planning tools. Fundamental hydraulic and hydrological concepts will also be covered.
The course presents different methodological tools (integrated modeling, planning, decision making, risk analysis ...) providing support to the integrated water resources management. Different types of mono- and multi-compartimental numerical models are presented as well as system and model concepts are introduced, model types (application to water management), their implementation (identification, conceptualization, mathematical representation, calibration and validation, analysis) and their numerical operations.
Case studies are presented and allow addressing the issue of the technical / legal / socio-economic constraints.
Practical exercises enable to learn how to use the operational software dedicated to the surface water quality (PegOpera CE).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Awareness to modeling and integrated management of the water cycle, especially to the use of decision making tools in water resource management. Critical analysis development in using the tools and analyzing the results.
The practical exercises objectives are to learn to use a software dedicated to the assessment of the physico-chemical quality of surface water in the operational context of integrated water resources management.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is composed of 'ex cathedra' sessions and practical courses (exercises). The exercises are related to the theoretical courses and are organized during the second semester.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face.
Recommended or required readings
Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
oral exam
Written work / report
Additional information:
The student will develop his self-sufficient capacities on practical and real case studies. The student evaluation includes an individual report on a real case study (using the PegOpera CE software). The assessment also includes an oral exam. Students are evaluated based on their knowledge of modeling concepts presented in the theoretical courses, the Pegase methodology and their individual report.
Work placement(s)
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
Theoretical and exercises courses are organized at the Arlon campus (Arlon Campus Environment, Avenue de Longwy 185 6700 Arlon).
