Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course illustrates recent applications in the field of advanced molecular spectroscopies, introduces the notion of molecular imaging and the required spectroscopic data treatments. The technical and experimental concepts of molecular spectroscopies are developped within 6 chapters. The processing of spectroscopic data is also approached with contextual example of studies.
Chapter 1. Introduction and basics of molecular spectroscopies
Chapter 2. Introduction to molecular imaging, including experimental aspects
Chapter 3. Pretreatment of spectroscopic signals and quantitative analyses
Chapter 4. Chemometrics exploratory approaches, clustering and principal component analysis (PCA), and chemometric techniques for molecular imaging, multivariate curve resolution (MCR)
Chapter 5. Practical works
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the course, the students should be able to propose a strategy to characterise a sample, including the spectral characterisation itself and the associated data treatment. The stategy must be compatible with the sample and the technical aspects of the complementary spectral methods.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Students should have some basic knowledge about spectroscopy.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course will be composed of 6 lessons. A complete chapter will be taught per lesson. Applied exercices (TDs) will be resolved during the lessons. The chemiometric data treatment will be realised on commercial software. At the end of the course, two practical sessions (TP) of 5 hours will be organised during which mini-projects will be proposed to the students.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Additional information:
6 lessons of 2:30 each during the second quadrimester follewed by 2 pratical session of 5h (lab session) at the end of the course.
Recommended or required readings
The students will have access to the lecture support and to lecture notes.
Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
oral exam
Written work / report
Additional information:
During the pratical sessions (Chapter 5), the students will carry out a mini-project consisting in acquiring complex spectral data and analysing them with the tools provided. The students will be evaluated by a presentation of their results generated from the spectral data obtained during the pratical sessions and their suitable data treatment.
Identical modalities stand for the evaluation in September, would the evaluation in June be less than 10/20.
Work placement(s)
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The lecture is given in English.
